Wordle is an addicting, extremely compelling word game that has players all over the world hooked.  This game wasn’t created by a whole team of engineers wanting to make millions but by one man named Josh Wardle, who wanted to create a fun game for his partner who was obsessed with word games. The game grew in popularity in December 2021, just two months after it was launched. In those two months, the number of players grew from 90 in October to 300,000. Wordle, the online word guessing game, had become the word game for this generation- just like Scrabble and Boggle were for the previous one. Wordle is an online word game that can only be played once a day You must guess the hidden word with your only clue being that it is a five-letter word. You are allowed six attempts to guess the word and the color of each tile will change to show how close your guess was to the word.  As I have written before, Wordle starts as a game of chance, then morphs into a game of strategy like Mastermind, while testing the strength of your vocabulary. Basically, it’s a game of chance, with the strategy of Mastermind (the game) whilst testing the strength of your vocabulary. A word of caution- playing this game once is enough to get you hooked. After all, the restriction of you not being able to play more than one round per day keeps the player in constant anticipation of the next day- what word will it be? In how many tries can I guess it? How many seconds, or minutes will I need to get the word right?

The brilliant studio behind our favorite Pokemon Games is moving to an optional 4-day workweek schedule. Gamefreak announced the new “progressive” work policy on Tuesday saying it’s their intention to give their employees more flexibility and a better work-life balance. The change came after the 4-day work week became popular with developers, as reported by The Washington Post.  Why such a bold move for a company that continuously grinds to quickly release awesome games?“Work-life balance has always been a priority for us and since the beginning of our studio, we have empowered our teams to strike the right balance between their professional and private life based on their unique needs thanks to unlimited holidays, hybrid working, and no set working hours,” Gamefreak wrote in an announcement.  The new schedule allows employees to have an extra day off every week. The specific goal is to give them more time for family, like taking care of their kids and old family members. However, the day-off isn’t paid and those who opt to use the 4-day work week will have their take-home pay decreased by 20%.

Pokemon Go’s unique Augmented Reality gameplay made an instant worldwide trend. The launch of the game has brought about many things like people going out to look for Pokemon. The study, conducted by Zhi Cheng of the London School of Economics, focused on determining whether Pokemon Go has unintentionally helped in some ways, specifically in decreasing depression. How can he possibly confirm this? Zhi Cheng used an interesting metric to reach an evidence-based conclusion. He took depression-related search data from 166 regions in 12 different countries before and after the launch date of Pokemon GO. Of course, he also took the release dates in each region into consideration.The search terms include 'depression,' 'stress,' 'anxiety,' and 'fatigue'. Upon examining the data he compiled, Zhi Cheng found out that there was a  'significant short-term decrease' in depression-related searches after Pokemon Go’s launch.  The study also says that 'like any short-term treatment' the symptoms of depression returned once the treatment was stopped. Based on these findings, the researcher deduced that Pokemon Go may help in decreasing depression and these facts show that the significant decrease can be more credibly attributed to Pokemon Go’s launch. Well, with Pokemon Go encouraging people to go out and interact with others and take walks, or even runs, for exercise, it’s no surprise that it helps with someone’s mental health.

Borderlands 3 has already received crossplay support last year. Unfortunately, Sony’s platforms did not support the feature at first. But the good news has finally been served on PAX East as Gearbox Software announced that the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 will now support full crossplay.
