“You are not the prettiest.” Victoria Beckham Wrote To Her Teenage Self!

Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, wrote a very inspirational and emotional open letter to her teenage self for the October issue of British Vogue and shared it on social media. In the letter, she speaks very frankly about her insecurities as an 18 year-old girl and there is no doubt that it will touch the hearts of many of her fans...

She was probably the coolest Spice Girl that we all envied in our teenage years.

Among four other beautiful and very talented women, she knew how to be different and she always shined with her style.

And as the years went by, she proved that she had something special.

A great career, THE perfect husband and lovely children...

So now, let’s look at what she wrote to her 18 year-old self so bravely.

"I know you are struggling right now," Beckham writes.

"You are not the prettiest, or the thinnest, or the best at dancing at the Laine Theatre Arts college. You have never properly fitted in, although you are sharing your Surrey school digs with really nice girls."

"You have bad acne. You think the Principal has put you at the back of the end-of-year show (in a humiliatingly bright purple Lycra leotard) because you are too plump to go at the front.

"(This may or may not be true.)"

So the Victoria you know, who is so cool and beautiful all the time, was struggling with these when she was a teenager. But the letter has also fun parts.

"But I look back at you and smile."

"You are going to have so much fun with your clothes – PVC catsuits; chokers that say absurd things; weird spiky blonde hair. It will never occur to you that you appear ridiculous."

"I love the fact that you will feel free to express yourself."

"You will turn up at awards ceremonies resembling a drag queen."

"But I look back at you and smile. It will add interest to your life to go from one extreme to another."

"Fashion will take on added stature one day, but try not to be stifled by it. You will learn, as you mature, to swap heels for Stan Smith trainers, mini dresses for crisp white shirts."

"And you will never be one of those people who just roll out of bed."

She is right!  You've never been messy, Victoria!

She also talks about the love of her life: David Beckham!

"And yes, love at first sight does exist. It will happen to you."

Who wouldn't fall in love with David Beckham at first sight anyway?!

"Learn more about football, especially the offside rule."

"Love at first sight does exist. It will happen to you in the Manchester United players’ lounge – although you will get a little drunk, so exact details are hazy."

"While the other football players stand at the bar drinking with their mates, you will see David standing aside with his family."

"You, too, are close to your family, and you will think how similar he feels to you."

"He’s not even in the first team at this stage – you are the famous one. And he has such a cute smile."

"He’s going to ask for your number. (He still has the London-to-Manchester plane ticket on which you wrote it.)"

The lesson you should take from this story: Even Posh Spice has felt “ugly” and untalented once. Stop being too hard on yourself!

And when it comes to love, listen to your inner voice.

Life's full of surprises.

Thank you, Victoria, for being so open about your insecurities and sharing them with us!
