Today, Simena is officially known as Kaleköy in the Demre district of Antalya. This village, which is still inhabited, has the atmosphere of a Mediterranean village full of stone houses intertwined with ancient ruins, streets decorated with bougainvillaea and goat sounds. Electricity is a recent arrival, the roads are still closed to motorised vehicles and transport is by boat. This has given the region a timeless character.
