Iman Ahmad Abdulati is leaving her home for the first time in 25 years for weight reduction surgery.

When Iman had a cerebral stroke at age 11, she became bedridden, unable to carry her ever-increasing weight. Poor Iman couldn't leave her house since then.

Iman, suffers from elephantiasis - a parasitic infection that causes extreme swelling in the limbs.

Iman will need a private plane to travel to Mumbai, India, where she is set to receive life-saving bariatric surgery.

Her doctor reckons she could lose as much as 62 stones in two years after receiving treatment.

Dr Lakdawala has indicated the possible dangers of the operations could be for her and  said that 'doing nothing' is not a choice.

He stated: 'Her life is at risk. She is a living time bomb.'

'We have to take special precautions in this case to ensure there are no problems in the lung or the risk of a blood clot.'

Indian immigration officials initially denied Iman a visa, as she was unable to travel to Cairo to submit her application in person, and be fingerprinted by police. They backed down when surgeon Dr Muffazzal Lakdawala used Twitter to contact India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to ask for help
