You’ll Get Dizzy After Seeing These Pop Surrealist Portraits By Alex Garant!

Have you heard of “pop surrealism” before? It’s a populist art movement with its cultural roots in underground comics, punk music, and hot-rod cultures of the street. Usually, it has a unique sense of humor, “sarcasm” let’s say. And here we have an outstanding representation of this art movement: Meet Alex Garant, the Canadian pop-surrealist artist who got famous with her amazing portraits!

Alex Garant studied visual arts at Notre-Dame–De-Foy College just outside Quebec City. After graduating in 2001, she settled in Toronto, Canada.

She decided to commit to her passion for the arts after suffering from a heart attack in 2012, changing forever how she would see the world.

Her paintings offer a graphic quality with traditional portrait techniques.

Garant uses patterns, duplication of elements, symmetry and image superposition as key elements of her imagery.

Her paintings are described as “conversation pieces as they are meant to engage the observers into an image investigation process and hopefully enlist their senses differently while doing so” on her personal website.

Alex has shown works in art galleries all over Canada and the U.S., Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York as well as Australia and Portugal.

Alex has over 73k followers on Instagram, where you can follow her for her latest works!

Sometimes she shares videos of herself working on portraits. Like this one:
