June Osborne and Embracing the Darkness in 'The Handmaid's Tale'
Well, the fact that you interpreted things differently doesn't mean the author didn't think things "well", as you say. About Francis, I have watched many times and I also think June pulled that rope willing to kill Francis because she thought Francis was the one to blame for getting Hannah away from her and realizing she propably wouldn't find her again. If you pay attention to the way June looks at her and then says the "under his eye" when pulling, you see rage and hatred, not compassion to help someone die quickly. Then she discovered it wasn't her fault, and I think that "do you have any idea of what you did?" she yells ar Natalie, I think it was both referring to Hannah and to Francis. And about Eleanor, why can it be both things? I think there are too many things happening at the same time, she knows Eleanor is a liability, and she knows also that if Eleanor wanted to die was because of strong reasons. I think did it both to respect Eleanor's wishes and to protect her plan.
