15 Actresses Who've -Surprisingly- Never Won An Oscar Yet

The Oscars are, to put it mildly, flawed indicators of true quality, but within the industry, they’re the most influential indicators that exist, and so as much as we may hate it, they mean something. So, before the 89th Academy awards are held on the 26th of February, we wanted to remind you some of the great actresses without this award.

1. Helena Bonham Carter

Helena has wowed the world with her over-the-top acting style, generally in incredibly eccentric roles such as Bellatrix Lestrange, Red Queen, and her dark role in Les Miserables. She has been nominated twice but unfortunately has not yet won. She is well overdue.

2. Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in Martin Scorsese's Casino in 1996, has not win an Academy Award ever since.

3. Michelle Pfeiffer

She has received 3 Academy Award nominations for Dangerous Liaisons, The Fabulous Baker Boys, and Scarface. Her role in Batman has been a commercial hit. She has also been applauded for her roles in Age of Innocence, Dangerous Minds and a host of other movies. So why doesn't she have an Oscar yet, we just wondered.

4. Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson who is always one of the most wanted names in red carpet is not yet appreciated by the Academy. Scarlett, 32, who had 4 Golden Globe nominations and won BAFTA in 2003 with Lost in Translation, does not yet have an Oscar nomination.

5. Amy Adams

Adams has come a long way from playing the maniacal socialite that makes a girl climax on a horse in Cruel Intentions 2. For six long years, she took the roles no one else wanted before getting the opportunity to demonstrate her gifts in Junebug, the role that earned her her first Academy Award nod. Since then, she's been the subject of major casting news and Oscar-buzz updates.

6. Glenn Close

Glenn Close is respected through the industry and is consistently ranked as one of the most talented artists of our times. She has won 3 Emmy's, 3 Tony's and received 6 Academy Awards nominations, but she has yet to receive an Oscar. The Big Chill, Dangerous Liaison, and Fatal Attraction are just a few of her powerful films that deserve an Oscar.

7. Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain, 39, was nominated for the award in 2012 and 2013, making her a huge name in the industry. She has a lot of time and the best wishes from us for her next chance.

8. Marilyn Monroe

Monroe's well-known for many things: her bust, her butt, etc. But let's give credit where it's due: She also had absolutely fantastic comedic timing. As the ukulele-playing singer Sugar "Kane" Kowalczyk in Some Like It Hot, Monroe helped make the film one of the most iconic funny movies ever, even getting to upstage two comedy greats (Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon) dressed in drag.

9. Naomi Watts

We are likely to see Naomi Watts, 48, who has an Oscar nomination for The Impossible in 2012 and with 21 Grams in 2004, as she does not seem to stop.

10. Cameron Diaz

44-year-old Cameron Diaz is one of the stars who did not make a comeback with the Academy. Diaz, who has been nominated for the Golden Globe four times between 1999-2003, has never been nominated for an Oscar.

11. Rita Hayworth

After starring in Gilda, often considered her greatest role, she said, "[Men] go to bed with Gilda, they wake up with me." She became an iconic femme fatale and her intense erotic appeal, however, played second to her engrossing ability to portray a woman trapped in two loveless marriages with money wrapped up in both. Yet, no Academy award was given to her.

12. Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley has twice been nominated for the Oscar, although she is still 31 years old. Let's not forget that the British actress is nominated for such awards as the Golden Globe and BAFTA.

13. Viola Davis

The actress had been making movies for over a decade (with roles in respectable films like Antwone Fisher and Traffic), but it wasn't until she was nominated for a supporting role in Doubt that casting agents began taking her seriously.

It's really hard to ignore the fact that Davis does deserve the award and we will see the result of her nomination this year as best-leading actress with the movie Fences.

14. Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams, a 36-year-old who will compete for the fourth time in the Academy this year with her role in Manchester by the Sea, is one of the much-anticipated Oscars winner this year.

15. Meg Ryan

The talented actress is already 55 with no past nomination for an Oscar. Let's accept that it seems hard for her to get one from now on, but our hearts will secretly wish it for her.
