Breakdancer Raygun Breaks Silence with Emotional Message After Olympic Fame
The Paris Olympics have wrapped up, and one standout moment was the debut of breakdancing as an official category. Breakdancer Raygun, who captivated social media with his incredible moves, has finally broken his silence post-Olympics. Breakdancing, seen as a significant part of street culture, was included as a category for the first time at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
However, the replacement of a sport like karate with a dance in the Olympics drew criticism from many people.
Australian dancer Racheal Gunn, known as 'Raygun,' found herself the subject of social media buzz due to her breakdancing performance.
Raygun received a score of '0' in all three rounds of her breakdancing match, losing 18-0 and becoming the most unsuccessful participant from her country.
During her performance, Raygun showcased unique moves such as the "Kangaroo Paw" and "Snake."
However, these moves became the subject of mockery on social media, with accusations even suggesting that the athlete had manipulated the Olympic committee. After her disappointing Olympic performance, Raygun went on vacation with her husband, who is also her coach, and did not return to Australia with the country's athletes. Some users claimed that despite Raygun's poor performance, she was selected for the Olympics because she and her husband were founders of the Australian Breaking Association.
While the Australian Breakdancing organization denied these claims, Raygun, who had remained silent for a long time, eventually made a statement.
On her social media account, Raygun began her message with, 'Thank you to everyone who supported me':
'I’m happy that I could bring a bit of joy to your lives; that was my goal. I didn’t realize it would also open the door to so much hate, which was quite devastating. I took it very seriously while having fun there. I worked hard to prepare for the Olympics and gave it my all... I am honored to be part of the Australian Olympic team and to be part of Breaking's first appearance at the Olympics. The other athletes achieved extraordinary things... I will be in Europe for a few weeks for a pre-planned vacation, but I ask the media to stop bothering my family, friends, the Australian breakdancing community, and the broader street dance community. Everyone has experienced a lot because of this event, so I ask you to respect their privacy...'
