Life Before Fame

Curtis James Jackson III or more famously known as “50 Cent” was born on July 6, 1975. He was born in Queens, New York and was raised in the South Jamaican community of the same neighborhood. Growing up, he was raised by his mother, Sabrina, who was a known drug dealer. His mother died of a fire when he was only 8 years old, so he was eventually raised by his grandmother.

When he was in his 20s, he got involved in drug dealing and was arrested. He was supposed to serve a 9-year sentence but only served a 6-month sentence in a boot camp where he also earned his GED. His name “50 Cent” is a metaphor for the word change which symbolizes the change he had to go through to have what he has right now.

Music Career

50 Cent started his music career in 1996 but only gained the attention of the mainstream music community in 2002 when he released the song “In Da Club” which is still his most popular hit today. Other famous hits of 50 Cent include “Candy Shop”, “Many Men”, and “P.I.M.P.”

Debt and Bankruptcy

Now while we know that 50 Cent has had a well-established music career, it seems that he really isn’t that lucky when it comes to his finances. In 2015, 50 Cent filed for bankruptcy protection with a debt of around $32.5 million.In 2017, he was able to recover from bankruptcy by paying $22 million.
