Watch Iranian Director Asghar Farhadi’s Powerful Anti-Trump Oscar Message

Asghar Farhadi won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for The Salesman, but the Iranian filmmaker declined Academy’s invitation for this year’s award ceremony after the US President Donald Trump announced his travel ban from six Muslim-majority countries.

His decision was first announced on social media.

Asghar Farhadi also won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012 for “A Separation”.

Iranian-American engineer and first astronaut of Iranian descent Anousheh Ansari delivered his speech:

“My absence is out of respect for the people of my country and those of other six nations who have been disrespected by the inhumane law that bans entry of immigrants to the U.S.” he said.
