Warner Brothers has officially confirmed that a sequel to Constantine starring Keanu Reeves is happening.
Constantine is a horror fantasy film that hit theaters in 2005, featuring Keanu Reeves as John Constantine, a misanthropic exorcist who can communicate with supernatural beings and travel between hell and earth.
Detective Angela endorses Constantine for a mission to investigate the death of her twin sister. Constantine uncovers a dark truth that could jeopardize the entire world.
Constantine is available for your viewing pleasure on Netflix.
Who Casts ‘Constantine’?
The previous film boasts an ensemble cast, including Rachel Weisz as Angela and Isabel Dodson, Tilda Swinton as Gabriel, Shia LaBeouf as Chas Kramer, Peter Stormare as Lucifer, Djimon Hounsou as Midnite and Gavin Rossdale as Balthazar.
How was ‘Constantine’ Received?
Constantine wasn’t much of a success as it received mixed feedback from critics and the audience. Over the years, it has managed to gain a cult following, and with Reeves’ increasing popularity thanks to the John Wick franchise, word for a Constantine sequel began to spread like wildfire.
Who Will Cast and Produce ‘Constantine 2’?
Francis Lawrence, who directed the previous Constantine, will reprise his role in the sequel, along with scriptwriter Akiva Goldsman. Lawrence will also serve as the producer through his company Weed Road Pictures. He will be joined by Hannah Minghella and J.J. Abrams of Bad Robot Productions.
We are sure about Reeves reprising his role as John Constantine, but there is no news yet about the rest of the first movie's cast returning, including Stormare as Lucifer.
When Will ‘Constantine 2’ Be Released?
Warner Bros hasn’t announced the film’s release date as the project is in its pre-production stage. Probably things will be mute for a while.
Fans' Reaction About the Sequel
Like the first film reception, news about the sequel has spurred mixed reactions from fans. While some are elated about the return of Constantine, other fans are less than thrilled.
One fan commented on Twitter, “Great news! I can’t wait to watch Constantine 2 and hopefully see the titular character in Zack Synder’s Justice League.”
Some fans voiced their concern about Matt Ryan, who recently played Constantine in TV adaptations' involvement in the sequel. Ryan's version of the character has gradually gained fanatics' affection owing to his emergence on several DC shows on CW.
