17 Celebrities Who Bravely Battled Sex Addiction!
News > 17 Celebrities Who Bravely Battled Sex Addiction!
Cases of sex addiction have exploded with the expansion of the Internet over the last 20 years. At any given moment, more than 29,000 people are viewing adult entertainment on the Internet, and that is likely a conservative number. While numbers of consumption is growing among both genders, women now make up one-third of the people viewing erotic content online.
In-patient treatment facilities have seen a boom in numbers as adult entertainment has expanded on the Internet. Similar to the way marijuana is called a gateway drug, some experts believe erotic content is a gateway behavior to riskier sexual habits. Here is a list of 17 celebrities who have come forward, or were forced to come forward, about their sex addiction.
1. Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas admitted to a sex addiction in his 2012 biography, as well as to being an alcoholic. His half-brother died of a drug overdose and his son is in jail for drug trafficking, so addiction seems to runs in the family. His first marriage broke up due to his serial adultery, and his current marriage to Catherine Zeta Jones has been rocky. He also believes he contracted throat cancer from oral sex. Michael has spent some time in rehab dealing with these issues.
2. Amber Smith
When you’re talking about a woman who has been featured both in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and was a high profile Victoria’s Secret model, you’re usually talking about someone who sells the image of sex for a living, but if you believe what she said on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, she actually resorted to selling sex for a living when the jobs weren’t coming in. Like many addicts, she also wrestled with the drug and alcohol issues, along with co-dependency. Smith tried to revive her career about 10 years with an appearance in Playboy and starring on the Cinemax soft-core series Sin City Diaries, but except for the occasional red carpet appearance, Smith mainly stays out of the spotlight.
3. Amy Winehouse
In 2008, Amy Winehouse's alleged lover, Alex Haines, told The Daily Mail that the famed singer was a sex and drug addict, and either needed to be high or having sex. He claimed the pair engaged in an affair when her then-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, was behind bars.
4. Charlie Sheen
It's no secret that Charlie Sheen has struggled with sex addiction throughout the years — and it's probably what led him to contract HIV in the end!
5. David Duchovny
'I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction.' That's what
Californication actor David Duchovny said in 2008 when he split from his then-wife Téa Leoni. 6. Robbie Williams
In the book
Somebody Someday, written with Williams's approval during his European tour earlier this year, the singer talks candidly about his battle with drinking and drugs.
'I gave up drink and drugs on the tour and wanted to substitute it with something else, so I had sex. For me it was a compulsion. . . . But it's soulless.'
7. Jack Nicholson
Kim Basinger said of Nicholson: “He is crazy! I haven`t met anyone so obsessed with sex like him!” The veteran actor would agree that that’s a fair summing up of his sexual proficiency. When asked how many children he has fathered, he responded to the interviewer: “There could be 9,000 for all I know – I used to live so freely. Women are never enough for me. There were days when I used to go to bed with four or more. But none of them can take away my freedom. Until the end of my days I’ll remain a bachelor!”
8. Eric Benet
Marriage to Halle Berry gave Benet a number of benefits – a beautiful wife and lots of publicity for his music career. However, this wasn’t enough for him to curtail his sexual urges. He was caught cheating, and more than once. Like a lot of stars on this list, he checked into a 35 day rehab program for sex addiction. That didn’t cut it for the slighted Berry, and they parted ways soon after.
9. Colin Farrell
Colin Farrell struggled with addiction to alcohol and sex, entering rehab in 2005 after an x-rated tape of him with model Nicole Narain was leaked.
10. Billy Bob Thornton
Why does Billy Bob Thornton top this list amongst some of the whackiest boner-happy celebs? And why would anyone want to cheat on their wife, especially when she happens to be Angelina Jolie?
Well, to start off with, he ended up cheating on her with a whole bunch of groupies and household staff time and again! In a bid to save their marriage, Angelina sent him to a sex-therapist, and well, as the story goes, he ended up bedding the therapist as well!
11. Tom Sizemore
Once upon a time, Sizemore was dating the classy Elizabeth Hurley. Fast forward a few years, and you find him a washed-up divorcee hooked up with notorious Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss. The
Saving Private Ryan actor went off the rails and became a meth-addicted guy whose aim in life was sleeping with as many women as possible. He later wrote a book where he confessed he was addicted to sex, meth and heroin, thanks to Fleiss. His wilder days seem to be behind him now, and he may have some new films lined up. 12. Russell Brand
Anyone who hires a team to find women for him to sleep with automatically deserves a place on this list of famous sex addicts. Named “Shagger of the Year” by a British tabloid, Brand openly claims that he is “like a charging locomotive” when he’s at his most promiscuous. He was once reported to have slept with 80 women in a month! You might expect Brand’s divorce from Katy Perry was due to sex addiction issues, but Katy says they split because she wasn’t ready for children.
13. Rob Lowe
One of the members of the 1980s “Brat Pack,” Lowe was brought to a new low when he was 24. While attending the Democratic convention, he hooked up with two girls and foolishly videotaped the fun. The tape was leaked and a scandal ensued, as one of the girls was just 16. Lowe struggled with drug, alcohol and sex addiction, but managed to turn his life around through rehab. He is 20+ years sober and has been happily married to wife Sheryll Berkoff for two decades. Consider him one of our reformed famous sex addicts.
14. Kanye West
West came out as a connoisseur of adult entertainment to Rolling Stone magazine in 2006 and a few years later told Details magazine a few years later that he had suffered with a sexual addiction for a long time. The rapper told Details: “People ask me a lot about my drive. I think it comes from like, having a sexual addiction at a really young age. Look at the drive that people have to get sex – to dress like this and get a haircut and be in the club or in the freezing cold at 3 am. If you can focus your energy on something valuable, put that into work ethic. While his wife, Kim Kardashian is certainly something of an exhibitionist, there haven’t been any major rumors of infidelity since the two got married.
15. Tiger Woods
Woods’ fall from a happily married golf icon to a sex addicted two-timer is legendary. The trigger was news of his affair with Rachel Uchitel in 2009. Before the year was over, more than twelve women had come forward, sending Woods’ wholesome image into the trashcan for good. Early the next year, he publicly admitted to his mistakes, claiming that he thought he could get away with impunity. Not surprisingly, this honest admission was followed by an expensive divorce with wife Elin Nordegren. He’s one of the famous sex addicts it’s hard to feel sorry for.
16. Britney Spears
A source close to
Britney Spears was quoted squealing on the star back when she was with Kfed. “Britney says sex with Kevin is ten times better than with her ex-lover Justin Timberlake. They’re constantly in bed together in one long sex marathon.” We don’t know if that means “sex addict” but, they did have two kids together, for better or for worse… 17. Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan has been quoted half-admitting her sex addition: “Being an actress is lonely, and I never want to be alone… I hate sleeping alone. I like being able to be in different relationships – being able to see a few people. I’m not really like a crazy addict. I mean – I enjoy having sex.”
