‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ Box-office Track Record

‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ was the fifth highest-grossing film of all time and the second highest-grossing film of 2011 bagging $1.124 billion worldwide.

Its appeal did not just end with the viewing public but more so to the award-giving body because like the first movie, it was nominated for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects at the 84th Academy Awards.

What Was ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ Story All About?

‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ follows the Autobots and Decepticons last days of the war as they battle to hold powerful technology from their homeworld crashed on Earth's Moon to regain their home.

Picking up two years after the Egypt incident, the Autobots and their human allies discover a lost piece of Cybertronian technology which has been in human possession for several years.

It is revealed that the artifact is part of an Autobot spacecraft which crashed on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon and carries a special technology and the legendary Sentinel Prime. 

When Optimus Prime learns of a downed Transformers ship on the moon, he leads a mission to rescue the pilot left behind: his mentor, Sentinel Prime, who later become a Decepticon double agent.

However, Sam Witwicky finds a scheme by the Decepticons who plan to use it for their own wicked intention. And Optimus Prime finds that they are up against a jeopardy who plans to also use it to enthrall humanity in order to reinstitute Cybertron.

Who Are The Cast of ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’?

This film starring Shia LaBeouf is the third installment of the Michael Bay Transformer franchise, and is the sequel to 2009 ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’.

With him are Josh Duhamel, John Turturro, Tyrese Gibson, Patrick Dempsey, Kevin Dunn, Julie White, John Malkovich, and Frances McDormand. Since Megan Fox’s character was defunct for some reasons, she was being replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as LaBeouf’s love interest in this movie.

Returning Transformers include Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Ratchet, Sideswipe, Wheelie with the same voice talents from the previous series.

In addition, Leonard Nimoy voices an ancient Transformer Sentinel Prime who was once the leader of the Autobots and predecessor of Optimus Prime. Nimoy had previously voiced Galvatron in the 1986 original Transfromers film.

Who Are The People Behind ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’?

In this Michael Bay’s third Transformer sequel, Ehren Kruger became the sole screenwriter for Dark of the Moon. Screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who had worked on the two previous Transformers films, declined to return for the third film. It is also the first film in the series that leaves Paramount Pictures as the sole distributor.
