TikTok Slang Origins: What does ‘bussin’ mean on TikTok?
We are back with another word from the Tik Tok world and it seems that today’s generation never runs out of new words and phrases to use.
The word that we have today is “bussin”.
Where did ‘bussin’ come from?
The word ‘bussin’ is said to have existed for some time now but only gained popularity when TikTok user and health guru @JanelleRohner created a video about a bell pepper sandwich. The said TikToker is famous mainly because of her keto recipes and cookbook promotions. So, it was no surprise that people on the platform came to her bell pepper sandwich video to ask if the sandwich was “bussin”.
Rohner did not really understand what the word meant so she created a separate video to ask her commenters to explain the word to her. After that, she responded with a separate video wherein she is seen munching on a bell pepper, a cucumber, and a cheddar stick and says that those are bussin.
Many people think otherwise and that video started a trend. Since then, TikTok users stitch themselves to Rohner’s food videos where she tastes her recipe, and the TikTok users snarkily or mockingly ask the question “Is it bussin, Janelle?”
What does ‘bussin’ mean?
The word “bussin” simply means that something is “really good” or “great”.
If your burger and fries taste great, then that’s bussin.
Does your friend’s car run fast? Then that’s bussin.
Basically, the word is used when someone wants to describe something out of praise and they want to use a word that is out of the ordinary. Although it is also sometimes used sardonically or mockingly in some instances. In fact, that was actually the case when the word rose on TikTok.
So, I think it is safe to say that a lot of people do not think that bell pepper sandwiches are bussin.
