This Student Used The Female Body As Her Canvas To Raise Sexual Assault Awareness

This 19 year old college student created a project for her art class that left people surprised, mad and admiring at the same time. We compiled this little, but pretty effective art project that tells about sexual assault in an extraordinary way from BuzzFeed.

The project was focused on the aftermath of sexual assault, communicating through colors and art. It attracted a big amount of attention on social media immediately after it was posted.

19 year old Emma Krezner studies at Nebraska Wesleyan University. This is how she explained her project:

“I made this project largely for myself to actually visualize the lasting impact that touch can have on an individual.”

Emma took a photo of her friend and printed it life-size, then painted it using her fingers.

At this point, the artist said she was “depicting touches from different people in [her] life.”

“I thought about what was true for myself, and also, what I perceived to be commonly true for people in general, when I mapped out these touches.”

Underneath this ‘touch map,’ there were codes to explain what the colors represented.

Emma completed her project the same night she came back from the Women’s March. She got tons of positive reactions after sharing it on Twitter.

Emma’s comment on peoples’ reactions to the project was “both heartbreaking and empowering.”

“Some people told me they burst into tears after viewing the piece and others thanked me repeatedly for creating it. I really don’t have the words to describe how it makes me feel,” and says her success was actually derived from the project’s honesty.

“I think openness and vulnerability of it is allowing other people people to make themselves open and vulnerable as well.”

Emma is now planning to create a larger series of artwork inspired by this piece. “I just really like working large scale with the human body and expressing important messages about it.”

We appreciate Emma and anyone who stands up against sexual assault!!
