The Best Shows Coming Out in Fall 2022

This year has been a traumatic time for fans of streaming. In April, Netflix announced a major drop in subscriptions, frightening skittish would-be investors throughout the industry. There's been a rash of cancellations ever since, exacerbated by the merger between HBOMax and Discovery+, which led them to announce that they were cutting back on more than 36 titles. Cliffhangers were left unfinished. Beloved characters never reached the conclusion they deserved, all for the sake of maintaining profits. Despite all of that, there's still a large slate of new shows coming in the fall, and though they will never make up for our losses, they may be enough to provide a distraction from our grief.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)

Platform: Prime Video

Amazon is playing the opposite game this year. They funded the most expensive show ever created, detailing the events that led to the rise of Lord Sauron and the forging of the Rings of Power. They even made a 5 season production commitment when they purchased the rights, ensuring that fans will get the full story.

American Gigolo (2022)

Platform: Showtime

Release Date: September 9, 2022

Modern remake of the 1980 film of the same name. American Gigolo details the exploits of a sex worker who was framed for murder and released from prison after the charges were dropped. It stars Jon Bernthal as Julian Kayne.

Reboot (2022)

Platform: Hulu

Release Date: September 20, 2022

In this hilarious comedy starring Rachel Bloom, Johnny Knoxville, Paul Reiser, and Keygan-Michael Key, Hulu decides to create a reboot of a cheesy, early-2000s sitcom. The result is a slapstick, dark comedy that allows the streaming service to make fun of itself.

Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire (2022)

A revisionary retelling of Anne Rice's literary classic Interview With the Vampire. The story follows the vampire Louis de Points Du Lac after he was changed in 1910 by Lestat Du Lioncourt.

Wednesday Addams (2022)

Release Date: TBD - Fall 2022

Wednesday Addams is a comedy horror that follows the fabled Addams family character as she navigates life as a high school student at Nevermore Academy. She struggles with her psychic powers and a string of killings in her town while trying to solve the supernatural mystery of what happened to her family 25 years ago. This highly anticipated adaptation comes after years of talks between different streaming services over how best to portray an older version of her character. It should prove entertaining for new fans of the franchise and old stans who never seemed to be able to get enough.
