Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles Release Date, Trailer, Synopsis and More

The animated children's anime 'Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles' is based on the Usagi Yojimbo comics. 

Usagi Yojimbo is a popular manga series that takes inspiration from Akira Kurosawa's films as well as the exploits of renowned samurai Miyamoto Musashi. In the West, it is arguably most known for its link to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.

Miyamoto Usagi appeared in the 1987 animated series, the second season of the 2003 animated series, and the fifth season of the 2012 computer-animated series on various occasions.

The Usagi Yojimbo comics have a long and illustrious history, having been published for nearly 35 years. The comic was created by Stan Sakai, a Japanese-American cartoonist. As previously stated, Netflix first announced in July 2020 that a new TV series based on the iconic cartoon would be released.

‘Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles’ Release Date

The Netflix adaptation of Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo, which was first announced in July 2020, will premiere on April 28th, 2022. This will be the second season of the 2003 animated series, and the fifth season of the 2012 CG-animated series.

The animated series Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles, based on Stan Sakai's historical action fantasy comic Usagi Yojimbo, has received a new trailer from Netflix.

The trailer looks like a futuristic chanbara version of Star Fox Adventures, with anthropomorphic animals dressed in Japanese garb running, swinging, and leaping through a futuristic sci-fi metropolis while being chased by Buzzsaw-wielding construction robots, villainous yokai, and other nefarious foes on their way to victory.

‘Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles’ Showrunners

Showrunners Candie and Doug Langdale are in charge of the series. They're famed for their roles in Netflix's Maya and the Three and DreamWorks' Puss in Boots and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness.

Gaumont, Dark Horse Entertainment, Atomic Monster, and Indian-based 88 Pictures are among the production companies interested in the project.

Synopsis Of ‘Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles’

Set in the futuristic city of Neo Edo, Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles follows the story of Yuichi Usagi, a teenage swordsman and distant descendant to the legendary warrior Miyamoto Usagi.

Yuichi will have to deal with foul and fearsome creatures summoned from another dimension with the help of a misfit team of warriors that includes a hard-headed bounty hunter named Gen, an acrobatic pickpocket named Kitsune, and an aloof ninja named Chizu if he hopes to save Neo Edo and become a true samurai warrior.

The Voices Behind ‘Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles’

'Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles' has got talented actors to voice behind each character:

Darren Barnet is voicing the titular character of Usagi as well as Spot. 

Shelby Rabara will be voicing Kitsune in the series. She's best recognized for her part as Sumi Sen in Amazon Prime's Goliath, but she's also voiced a variety of characters throughout her career, most notably in Steven Universe.

Aleks Le will be voicing the role of Gen in the series. The voice actor has a long list of credits, but his most well-known role is that of Zenitsu Agatsuma in the anime series Demon Slayer.

Mallory Low will be voicing Chizu in the series.
