Born into a family of nine children in Karaisalı, Adana, Damcıoğlu's exposure to the performing arts began at an early age. Her father owned an open-air cinema, and her mother worked as a seamstress for state operas. Her early engagement with the performing arts started at the age of 9 when she joined the children's department of the General Directorate of State Theatres. This foundation led her to receive ballet training and to work with the Radio Children's Club for nine years. By the time she turned 16, she was already performing at the State Theater.

It was during her tenure with the Mücap Ofluoğlu Troupe that she discovered her love for kanto. Encouraged by Ofluoğlu, Damcıoğlu performed her first kanto-style song in 1969, after which she dedicated herself entirely to the genre, making history as the first Muslim female kanto performer.
