A family living in New Zealand decided to move to Australia.
They packed up their belongings and boarded the plane, making sure to bring their 8-year-old cat, Mittens, along. Mittens was handed over in her cage to the cargo hold of the plane. However, the events that followed were straight out of a movie.
Mittens' owner, Margo Neas, explained that when they arrived in Australia, she waited for three hours for her cat, but Mittens was not delivered.
The cat had been forgotten in the plane's cargo hold! When Neas asked the staff about her cat, she was told that it was overlooked 'due to too much luggage.' Meanwhile, Mittens was already on her way back to her home country, New Zealand.
The unfortunate cat ended up taking three flights between New Zealand and Australia within 24 hours.
The airline mistakenly added her name to the 'frequent flyer' list. The airline staff worked hard to ensure Mittens was returned to her family. The plane's pilot was aware of Mittens and even turned on the air conditioning in the cargo hold to make her comfortable. The person responsible for the luggage section reported that a wheelchair package had blocked the view of the cat.
Fortunately, this story had a happy ending.
Mittens' owner arranged for another pet transport company to bring her cat back. The company picked Mittens up from the plane on her return journey to New Zealand. Although Mittens had lost a bit of weight, this time she flew back on a one-way ticket to be reunited with her owner. 'She ran into my arms, snuggled up, and we had the biggest hug of all time,' Neas said, expressing her joy at being reunited with her beloved cat.
