Born on October 19, 1992 as Durk Derrick Banks, Lil Durk had a difficult childhood because his father was incarcerated when he was just seven months old. Growing up, Lil Durk started exploring the possibilities of becoming a rapper by building a slow but steady fan base through social media sites like YouTube and the then famous MySpace. He was attending the Paul Robeson High School when he decided to drop out at the age of 17 to pursue a career in music. However, he ended up on the wrong side of the fence when he became part of the Black Disciples, a street gang in Chicago. Shortly after joining, he found himself serving time in October 2011 due to gun charges.

After being released, Lil Durk took his career more seriously. He was supposed to sign with Chief Keef and French Montana’s record label but the deal never came through, yet he still considered rapping to become his full time career. He soon released two singles, 'Sneak Dissin'' and 'I'ma Hitta', which were both received well by the public.

In 2012, he released “L’s Anthem” in collaboration with French Montana.

Because of the continued success of “L’s Anthem”, Lil Durk found himself signing a joint contract with his rap collective Only The Family and Def Jam Records. In 2013, he released his fourth mixtape, Signed with the Streets, which later on was named as the eighth best mixtape by the Rolling Stone.

Since then, Lil Durk has continuously released new albums for his fans. Recently he just launched his fifth album Just Cause Y'all Waited 2 in May 2020. He also released a new single “Ahhh Haha” in February 2022.
