Late last month, The Witcher announced that Henry Cavill, will be handing over his role as Geralt of Rivia to Liam Hemsworth after the show’s third season.
Since then, fans have expressed some pretty strong opinions about the news. Let’s see what some of them are:
About ‘The Witcher’
The Witcher is a Netflix original show that premiered in 2019. Though the fantasy drama series was meant to be a standalone creation, it gained a huge following, leading to its continual. The second season came out last year, and the third is scheduled to debut over the Summer of next year.
The Netflix series has performed exceptionally well thus far, scoring 8.2/10 on IMDb, 93% on Google Ratings and 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, with an audience score of 75%.
The critics specifically praised Cavill’s performance in the second season, saying that he brings “brawny charisma” to the series.
With The Witcher gaining popularity due to its lead star Henry Cavill, here’s what viewers think about his exit.
‘The Witcher’ Should be Canceled
Some fans think that The Witcher should be canceled since Cavill was their reason to watch the show.
“Just cancel this disaster of a show. Henry was the only good thing about it. Dude carried the joke thing alone,” commented one fan.
“The only reason I tolerated this was the fellow gamer Henry, and now he's gone. I can finally rest my brain and self from the book or game show. Total waste of time now that Henry's gone ☹,” said another commenter.
Henry Cavill Made a Good Decision
Other fans support Cavill’s decision to exit the show, given its continual deviation from the books, diluting its value. The actor seemingly quit the production because he disagreed with the writers' approach to his character.
A fan strongly expressed, 'The writers are openly increasingly hostile on the source material, and Henry has had enough meddling with books that are all already perfect. I support him. The show gets worse the further it gets from the book material.'
“Unlucky for you a lot of fans like us will not even give it a chance since your writers just won’t respect the source material as that is the reason why Henry left. Those writers on their high horses just can’t understand we became fans because of that source material. Not you,” another angry fan added.
Liam Hemsworth has Some Big Shoes to Fill
Other viewers have no disregard for Liam Hemsworth, but they think he has his work cut out for him filling in for Cavill, who authentically embodied Geralt.
“No hate for Liam since I'm sure he'll be a worthy replacement, but Cavill was basically the heart and soul of the show. He embodied Geralt in a way that only a superfan of the source material could, and so season 3 shall be the last one in my eyes,' echoed one.
Replacing a beloved main character obviously outrages viewers. The list of complaints about the show's change of lead character is endless. Hopefully, Netflix and the show know what they are doing.
