Cardora Announced!

Developed by Nightbadgers Studio, Cardora has officially been revealed on Kickstarter.

Founded earlier this year, Nightbadgers Studio has made a fast entry into PC game development with its young and dynamic team. If you enjoy card and strategy games, Cardora might be exactly what you’re looking for. Announced via Kickstarter, the project will be expanded step by step based on the level of funding it receives. A Playfully Dark Medieval Theme

A Playfully Dark Medieval Theme

Cardora is designed for players who love classic card games but want something different. Every match brings new chaos, new tactics, and a new story.

Built around a poker-based system, Cardora is a thematic card game featuring both multiplayer modes and roguelite-inspired single-player modes, where players aim to achieve the highest synergy through endgame combinations. Its atmosphere is one of its most striking elements.

At the heart of this system lies Grim Poker, a ruthless yet familiar poker game played at the tables of nobility. Players bluff with cards and make calculated moves to claim control over the kingdom’s districts. The rules are familiar; the intentions are dark. In Cardora, victory does not belong solely to the player with the strongest hand, but to the one who understands their opponent’s weaknesses and knows how to manipulate them.

In Cardora, players don’t just build strong combinations; through active ability cards, they can disrupt their opponents’ plans and change the flow of the game in an instant. Passive ability cards, on the other hand, strengthen your strategy and give you a crucial edge.

Cardora is not designed as a single, standalone card game, but as a living anthology. Set in a slightly dark medieval world, its art style and themes draw inspiration from the era of the Black Plague, giving classic card gameplay a darker, more mischievous, and distinctive tone. Each game mode approaches this historical theme from a different angle.

One of Cardora’s most notable features is its dynamic conditions system. At the start of every cycle, a new event enters the game, introducing special rules that affect all players throughout that round. When the cycle ends, the event is replaced by an entirely different one. The result? No two matches are ever the same, and players must constantly rebuild their strategies.

An Evolving Game System

An Evolving Game System

As the infection spreads, the game mutates. Poker mechanics fracture, reshape, and transform into entirely new experiences. At times, the table becomes a battlefield, a puzzle, and a survival-horror scenario. Cardora’s system rewrites itself to serve the story it wants to tell.

That’s why Cardora is not a single game.

It is one system, many games.

Players are not purchasing a static experience; they are becoming part of a living structure. They can enjoy a quick bluffing match or dive into a deep, narrative-driven single-player mode set in a decaying world. Mechanics serve the narrative. Rules carry the weight of the story.

Game Modes

Game Modes

Multiple game modes are planned for launch and future updates. The first of these is:

Grim Poker

  • A poker-based, 4-player card game

  • Gameplay built around creating synergies using classic poker hand combinations

  • Turn-based multiplayer card play that allows card exchange

Key Features

  • Highly interactive gameplay with active and passive ability cards

  • Constantly changing conditions that keep matches dynamic, surprising, and alive

  • Single-player, team-based, and free-for-all modes

  • A dark medieval atmosphere inspired by the Black Plague

  • High replayability with ever-evolving strategies

In the next phase, the single-player mode “Plague Defense” will be introduced. Details for this mode can be found on the Kickstarter page.

Story: The Game of Kings in a Dying World

Story: The Game of Kings in a Dying World

The story begins with a familiar scene:

Ships docking at the harbor. Silk and spices being unloaded… and with them, an unseen disaster.

As the plague spreads through the streets, the Lords in their high castles are focused on something else entirely. They watch not the fever of the people, but the cards on the table. Because in these lands, wars are not won with armies — they are won with Cardora. Territories, resources, and power change hands through cards. As the world rots, the game goes on.

The player is one of these Lords.

The plague advances.

But the game must continue.

Systems Tell Stories, Mechanics Teach

Systems Tell Stories, Mechanics Teach

Cardora’s gameplay is simple, yet instructive. Drawing cards, discarding cards, and building the right synergy at the right moment… Each cycle teaches the player something: patience, risk, and sacrifice. Poker hands formed during synergy phases don’t just earn points — they define your place at the table.

In single-player mode, these lessons turn into survival. On a four-front battlefield, poker synergies become weapons. Even the strongest hand can be wasted if played at the wrong time. In Cardora, power without context is meaningless.

Not a Game, but a Universe

Cardora is designed as an ever-expanding structure. A growing universe shaped by new modes, new systems, and new narratives. As funding milestones are reached, competitive modes, cooperative experiences, solo horror content, and dungeon crawler gameplay will be unlocked — allowing this anthology to continue evolving.

This is not a roadmap.

This is a prophecy.

The final question remains on the table:

Will you rule over the ashes?

Or will you leave your crown to the plague?
