1. The Essex Serpent (2022)

This series is one of the newest content well-worth staring at. The film is set in 1893, following the tale of the freshly widowed Cora Seaborne, portrayed by Claire Danes. Danes shifts to Essex to explore reports of a mysterious serpent after fleeing an abusive relationship through her husband’s death.

Claire forms a doubtful connection with the village clergyman, Tom Hiddleston, amid the mission. When disaster strikes, the villagers accuse Dane of attracting the monster.

The tale is more complex than it appears, involving many theological and philosophical debates and how forces between faith and superstition can affect our daily lives. The monster under discussion is far beyond a giant sea snake ever seen.

The series is written by Anna Symon and stars Jamael Westman, Clémence Poésy, Hayley Squires, Frank Dillane, Tom Hiddleston, and Claire Danes. The Essex Serpent is everything you’ve been looking for.

2. Loot (2022)

Loot is created by Matt Hubbard and Alan Yung, with Joel Kim Booster, Jaé Rodriguez, and Maya Rudolph in the starring roles. Rudolph is one of the best working comedy actresses, and this series fully utilizes her talent. Honestly, this series is worth your precious time if you haven’t had laughs after laughs in a while.

In the series, Molly’s spotless life crashes when she publicly learns her long-time partner has been unfaithful to her. The ten-part series launched in June.

We see Molly’s luxurious life packed with fancy boats, the works, colossal walk-in- closets, and gigantic mansions. But then, unfortunately, the requirement to abruptly exit a long relationship follows.

3. Physical (2021 to Present)

Physical has Geoffrey Arend, Lou T. Pucci, Della Saba, Paul Sparks, Diedre Friel, Rory Scovel, and Rose Bryne in the leading roles, with Annie Weisman as the creator.

Set up in the 1980s, this series follows responsible but unsatisfied housewife Sheila Rubin as she finds power and passion in the aerobics world. Sheila’s spouse, who just lost his job as a science professor, has followed her advice to vie for the California State Assembly as a town representative.

Even though Physical is set in the old days, this tale is relatable to several women. She has to stretch herself between her wife and motherly duties, battling her disordered eating habits and self-image and her budding aerobics business.

This manages to put together commentary on the growth of aerobics as a fitness form, politics of the 1980s, moral hypocrisy, and women’s empowerment into a genuinely compelling and intriguing series that is worth the watch.

4. Roar (2022 to Present)

In the realm of anthology series that are currently airing or have aired before, none seems to deliver solitary angles of women’s experiences in all their confusing, messy, and complicated glory.

Apple TV Plus’ Roar lays the table for all feminists- honestly, there’s no better way to describe the series than that. Each story centres on a different womanhood aspect, leading to varying returns. There’s also a slight peep on queer stories, but generally, the story is insightful, thrilling, and worth watching.

Its characters include Justin Kirk, Merritt Wever, Jake Johnson, Cynthia Erivo, Daniel D. Kim, Betty Gilpin, Simon Baker, Nicole Kidman, Nick Kroll, and Issa Rae. Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive created the series from the compilation of Cecelia Ahern’s short stories.
