Trump certainly didn’t waste Musk's support.
Elon Musk wasn't always a Trump supporter.
Risk investor and political strategist Bradley Tusk in an interview with Euronews explained:

Trump also referred to Musk as a "brilliant guy" and said he would “definitely” appoint him to a cabinet or advisory role.
Beyond these "business" reasons, Musk’s family issues may have also contributed to his support for Trump.
Musk had permitted his underage daughter to take "puberty blockers," but is now regretful.
Rejected by his child, Musk has made it clear that he is at war with those he believes are responsible for his child's situation.
Musk stated, "I didn’t buy Twitter for more money," explaining that he wanted to create a new digital town square.

Musk also moved SpaceX’s headquarters from California to Texas after California passed laws supporting transgender rights.
Trump announced that if elected, he would reverse Biden’s new policy that provides protections for transgender students and restrict LGBTQ rights.
