Salt-N-Pepa To Be Awarded A Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Old School hip hop group 'Salt'N'Pepa' are due to be honoured with a star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles.

The rap duo are set to receive the 2,738th golden star on the famous Hollywood strip.

The likes of MC Lyte and Roxanna Shante are set to speak at the awarding of the star ceremony, which is scheduled for the fourth of November.

The members of the influential group, Cheryl 'Salt' James and Sandra 'Pepa' Denton as well as Deidra 'Spinderella' Roper, blazed a trail for women in hip hop music with their new style of music in the genre.

The members of the group were amongst the first ladies to be awarded a Grammy honour and to this day, they hold the title of best-selling album of all time by any female rap group in hip hop courtesy of their 1993 release, 'Very Necessary.'

The group are also the first all female posse to have an album go gold before then going platinum.

Some of Salt-N-Pepa's most successful hits include 'Push It,' 'Let's Talk About Sex,' and 'None of Your Business.'

Those tracks were some of the first to see female artists express their sensuality and romantic desires in the rap genre.

The awarding of the Hollywood star to the group was first announced bu Walk of Fame Producer, Ana Martinez, in a recent statement released to the public.

“This upcoming star ceremony honoring Hip-Hop pioneers Salt-N-Pepa will honor the amazing 80s music we all love and so many grew up with!,” Martinez announced in the press release.

“We’re placing these ladies of Hip Hop royalty adjacent to Amoeba Music and right next to the Walk of Fame star of another Queen of Hip Hop, Missy Elliott!” she explained.

Legendary female rapper Missy Elliot responded to the news with delight, welcoming the group's addition to the hall of fame and expressing her happiness that they would be placed beside her star.

“What a Blessing to be beside Salt & Pepa who inspired me to Rap! My sisters for over 2 Decades! & they took a lot of Criticism coming in this game to make the female emcees after them walk through the door a lot easier,” Missy Elliot post on social media platform, Twitter.

“Thank you S&P RESPECT,” she added in her tweet.

The rap duo's final studio album was released in 1997, titled 'Brand New, and achieved gold in sales.

The compilation album, 'Icon,' was released by the group in 2011. They did star in a 'New Kids on The Block,' music video titled 'Bring Back The Time,' in March this year.
