Fans have had a first look at Nadia and Alan's comebacks, with the latter sporting a new mustache, as well as a first look at Schitt's Creek star Annie Murphy in an as-yet-undisclosed role, thanks to new photographs from Russian Doll season 2.

Russian Doll (Season 2) Plot: What's It Going To Be About?

Here's the official synopsis for Russian Doll season two:

'Set four years after Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) and Alan (Charlie Barnett) escaped mortality’s time loop together, season two of Russian Doll will continue to explore existential thematics through an often humorous and sci-fi lens. Discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations. At first, they experience this as an ever-expanding, era-spanning, intergenerational adventure, but they soon discover this extraordinary event might be more than they bargained for and, together, must search for a way out.'

Russian Doll (Season 2) Cast: Who's Going To Be In It?

Natasha Lyonne will return to the role of Nadia Vulvokov in the new episodes, which comes as no surprise given her Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her previous performance.

Nadia's friends Maxine (Greta Lee) and Lizzy (Chicago Fire's Charlie Barnett) are also set to return, as is fellow time-loop sufferer Alan, played by Chicago Fire's Charlie Barnett (Rebecca Henderson).

However, it's unclear whether we'll get to see more of Nadia's unstable mother, Lenora (Chloe Sevigny), or her cherished family friend and guardian Ruth Brenner (Elizabeth Ashley).

We do know that Annie Murphy, who starred in Schitt's Creek and was described by Lyonne as 'the heart of the show,' has joined the cast for season 2, and Carolyn Michelle Smith (House of Cards) will also have a recurring role.

Russian Doll (Season 2): Production Details

Natasha Lyonne serves as showrunner and executive producer on the show.

After delays due to COVID-19, the show was renewed for season 2 in June 2019, and filming began in March 2021, so it's been a long road to release.

The second season of Russian Doll was supposed to start production last year, but it was delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak, which brought the world to a halt.

Russian Doll was officially renewed in June 2019, six months after its Netflix release, with Natasha Lyonne commemorating the occasion with a video that pays gratitude to the first season on social media.
