In the months of May/June 1940, In the French port town of Dunkirk, 400,000 British and French soldiers are holed up. The only way out is by water, and the Germans have overwhelming air power, hitting British soldiers and ships with no resistance.
The situation appears to be bad, so Britain dispatches civilian boats, in addition to its already overburdened Navy, to try to evacuate the besieged forces.
This is the narrative of one of the besieged forces, two Royal Air Force fighter pilots, and a group of civilians on their boat, which was part of the evacuation fleet.

Filming began in Dunkirk in May 2016 and ended in Los Angeles in September of the same year, when post-production began. The film was shot on IMAX 65 mm and 65 mm large-format film stock by cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema. Thousands of extras, as well as genuine boats from the evacuation and historical airplanes, were used in the production of Dunkirk.
The film, which was distributed by Warner Bros., premiered on July 13, 2017 at the Odeon Leicester Square in London and was released on July 21, 2017 in the United Kingdom and the United States. It grossed $526 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing World War II picture.
