The situation appears to be bad, so Britain dispatches civilian boats, in addition to its already overburdened Navy, to try to evacuate the besieged forces.

This is the narrative of one of the besieged forces, two Royal Air Force fighter pilots, and a group of civilians on their boat, which was part of the evacuation fleet.

The film was shot on IMAX 65 mm and 65 mm large-format film stock by cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema. Thousands of extras, as well as genuine boats from the evacuation and historical airplanes, were used in the production of Dunkirk.

The film, which was distributed by Warner Bros., premiered on July 13, 2017 at the Odeon Leicester Square in London and was released on July 21, 2017 in the United Kingdom and the United States. It grossed $526 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing World War II picture.

Dunkirk was praised for its writing, direction, musical score, sound effects, and cinematography, with several critics hailing it as Nolan's best work and one of the best war films ever made.
