The Giza Pyramid is the largest of all the pyramids in Egypt and is estimated to consist of 2.3 million stone blocks.
So, what do we know about this engineering marvel?
Let’s start with the simplest question: how many sides does the pyramid have? Your answer is probably three. Wrong! Okay, is it four or maybe five? Or should we go further and say six? No, none of these are correct!
In fact, the Great Pyramid of Giza has eight sides!
The four faces we typically see are actually split into two sections each. Remember the “fortune teller” paper game we used to make as kids? It’s exactly like that!
This discovery about the pyramid’s eight sides wasn’t made until 1926.
When viewed from ground level, it’s impossible to notice this unique feature. It was only when British Air Force pilot P. Groves photographed the pyramid from above that its true shape was revealed.
However, seeing this shape requires a bit of luck. Depending on the angle of the sunlight, the eight sides may not be noticeable. The best time to observe all eight sides of the pyramid is during the equinoxes!
