He certainly has secret methods! According to the New York Post, Elon Musk revealed a question he asks all applicants at the 2017 World Government Summit. This question allows Musk to get to know the person better and easily determine if they are being dishonest.

Musk believes this question eliminates dishonest candidates. The question is backed by “Asymmetric Information Management (AIM).” Applied Cognitive Psychology reports that the AIM approach “improves verbal lie detection by encouraging honest people (not liars) to provide information.”

If an applicant provides a detailed answer to this question, as opposed to a vague response, it is considered more likely that they are telling the truth.

Research conducted in 2020 shows that liars can be detected through various methods. The researcher of these studies notes that “small details are the lifeblood of forensic investigations,” indicating that criminals will provide very few or no details to hide their crimes.
