Forced Gender Reassignment Surgery in India: "When I Woke Up, My Genitals Were Gone"
In a shocking incident in the Uttar Pradesh state of India, 20-year-old Mujahid from a rural village claims he was coerced into undergoing a gender reassignment surgery by a man who convinced him he had a medical emergency. Mujahid alleges that this was part of a land grab scheme. He described waking up to find his genitals missing, marking a traumatic and life-altering event.
After waking up in a hospital, a young man claimed that he had been brought there and coerced into a gender reassignment surgery by a man who convinced him he had a medical emergency.
Mujahid stated that the person who deceived him was a man named Omprakash, who had been threatening and harassing him for a long time.
On June 3rd, Mujahid underwent surgery at Muzaffarnagar Medical College and discovered that his genitals had been removed post-operation.
Still in shock, he told NDTV in an interview, 'When I regained consciousness, my genitals were gone.'
It was alleged that Omprakash tried to convince Mujahid that he would have to live with him due to being ostracized by society and his family.
Omprakash also allegedly threatened to kill Mujahid's father and seize the family land. Mujahid reported that Omprakash said, 'I have turned you from a man to a woman, and now you have to live with me. I arranged a lawyer for you and prepared a court marriage. Now I will shoot your father, and the land that is your share will be transferred to my name, and then I will sell it and go to Lucknow.'
Following the shocking incident, a local farmers' union held a protest demanding immediate legal and criminal actions against Omprakash and the doctors involved.
Local police arrested Omprakash and began investigating the doctors involved in the incident. Mujahid, whose life has been severely impacted by this traumatic event, will also seek compensation. According to NDTV, Mujahid's family plans to file a lawsuit. The police stated that they are investigating the allegations and will take necessary legal action against those found guilty.
