The real name of the actor who plays Blippi is Stevin John. He was born on May 27, 1988 in Washington, US. Not much is known about his childhood as well as his education, but it is said that he served as a loadmaster in the United States Air Force.

In 2013, Stevin John started creating and posting videos on the internet. But, this wasn’t really anything like Blippi— it’s the complete opposite of what Blippi is. John created a character named Steezy Grossman, a boy who was born as poop when his parents had anal sex. Hiding behind that name, he continued creating characters with disgustingly weird names like “Turdboy” and “Underwear Man”. In that same year the popular trend “Harlem Shake” was a must-do for internet personalities. And of course, you’ve guessed it right, Grossman did the trend on a toilet and defecated on a naked friend.

Since the internet basically stores everything that anyone posts, it was no surprise that his videos were discovered by Buzzfeed in 2019. He commented that he thought it was funny at the time but he now regrets it since it was stupid and tasteless. The videos under the persona Steezy Grossman have since been taken down.

Who would’ve thought that the person who created Steezy Grossman is the same person who created the well-loved, kid-friendly character Blippi?!

Just a year later after producing disgustingly weird videos, Stevin John began to take the role of Blippi! Reports say that John created the character when he saw the lack of high-quality educational videos on Youtube— something that he discovered through his then two-your-old nephew. He started posting videos in January of 2014 and hasn’t stopped ever since.

According to his website, “Blippi is a fun, energetic character known for his signature blue and orange outfit and his entertaining and educational videos.” The website also claims that “he helps teach kids colors, letters and so much more!”

One of Blippi’s most viewed videos on Youtube is Blippi Learns About Jungle Animals for Kids which now has 845 million views.

Aside from the revenue that Blippi gets from Youtube, the actor also earns from tours and concerts. He was also once accused of the “bait and switch” scheme wherein he promotes a Blippi tour but it turns out that the tour only features other actors instead of Stevin John himself.

Nevertheless, Blippi still gets a lot of support from his 15 million Youtube subscribers. In addition, he also sells Blippi merchandise which includes a variety of things from clothing, to accessories, to toys, and even homeware!

Because of Blippi’s success, the show was picked up and purchased by Moonbug Entertainment in 2020. The channel has also grown and the show is now also offered in multiple languages. His show is also available on other platforms like Amazon Kids+, Netflix, and Hulu.
