Set in 1950s London, ‘Phantom Thread’ is a romantic drama film about a fashion designer and his muse.
Reynolds Woodcock, a renowned and meticulous dressmaker, dresses the high society–royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites and debutantes. Being at the center of British fashion in 1950s London, Woodcock has a name of his own.
Women come and go in Woodcock's life, providing inspiration and companionship to the bachelor. It was until his fastidious life was disrupted by a young, strong-willed woman, Alma. The lady, whom he met as a former waitress, became his model and eventually became his muse and lover. With time, their relationship grows in intensity and strangeness.
Daniel Day-Lewis stars as Reynolds Woodcock, claiming it to be his last role. Cyril Woodcock, the protagonist’s sister, is played by Lesley Manville. While Woodcock's muse, Alma, is played by Vicky Krieps.

Reynolds Woodcock's extreme meticulousness is said to have been influenced by Charles James, an English-American fashion designer.
‘Phantom Thread’, was a hit on its first release, grossing a worldwide total of $47.8 million, against a production budget of $35 million. It also had a lot of positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film garnered an approval rating of 91% based on 353 reviews, with an average rating of 8.5 out of 10.
