The first leading victim of the said ripper is Shanna Gilbert, a sex worker who went missing in May 2010 and was found dead on Gilgo Beach along with the remains of four other bodies. The first four victims were then marked as the Gilgo Four, and they were followed by six more corpses. One of them was a woman. One was a toddler who was discovered as one of the victims' daughters, and the other was a cross-dressing male. Reports claim that the Craigslist Ripper brutally strangled all his victims except for one. The connections between the victim numbers are that they were all sex workers who advertised online on Craigslist, giving the killer the moniker of a 'Craigslist Ripper.'

The mysterious motive of the killer remained unknown for a long time, and this year a new police commissioner inherited the unsolved crime, claiming that the case would now be a firm priority. Some people think that reopening the investigation into this case will be helpful, while others think it will just be another case of Jack the Ripper.
