No Backtracking: Murat Dalkılıç Stands Firm After Igniting Nikbinler’s “AI Performance” Debate

The ongoing debate around the use of 'artificial intelligence' that sparked off following Nikbinler's performance at the tribute concert for Mustafa Sandal, a hitmaker of Turkish pop music, is escalating by the day...

The tribute concert, Saygı1, organized in honor of Mustafa Sandal, a titan of Turkish pop music, is making headlines not for the performances on stage, but for the controversies that erupted in its aftermath. The claim of 'artificial intelligence vocals' that surfaced after the performance of the song 'Denize Doğru' by the band Nikbinler, has split the music world in two. The barrage of criticisms, messages of support, and successive statements have only served to intensify the situation.

The statements made by Murat Dalkılıç on his social media account have caught the public's attention.

The performance by Nikbinler, which took center stage during the night, rapidly went viral on social media. However, some users threw a curveball with the claim that artificial intelligence was used for the vocals.

The performance by Nikbinler, which took center stage during the night, rapidly went viral on social media. However, some users threw a curveball with the claim that artificial intelligence was used for the vocals.

These allegations found a response from the music world as well. Without naming names, Murat Dalkılıç made a pointed remark in his post, stating, 'I've seen someone in the role of a very good singer pretending to sing the song that artificial intelligence has sung.' Tan Taşçı, on the other hand, fueled the debate further by expressing his disapproval of playback performances and orchestras that appear to be 'playing.'

The most explicit support for the performance at the center of the criticisms came from the host of the night, Mustafa Sandal. Sandal, who did not leave the young musicians alone, shared a video of the band's vocalist Berika Karadağ singing the song a cappella and said, 'This debate is over for me.' The artist, who stood up for the youth, stood behind Nikbinler by emphasizing respect for labor.

The debate heated up even more with the involvement of journalist Cüneyt Özdemir. While Özdemir made harsh remarks towards Dalkılıç and Taşçı, Tan Taşçı responded without delay. Taşçı criticized Özdemir for being unaware of his 21-year career. As the sides took a stand on social media, the issue became one of the hottest topics in the music world.

Following all these developments, a new statement has been issued from the camp of Murat Dalkılıç.

In his latest post, Dalkılıç implied that he stands by his words, emphasizing that his criticism is not personal but a matter of industry concern.

'It seems I've sparked a debate... Clearly, there's a revolution underway, and we'll have to adapt to it in the near future. These young folks have become a catalyst for this. It's not about them; this debate arose from the intensity of their spotlight.

Of course, Mustafa should adopt a protective stance towards the artificial intelligence performance of the Nikbins, as they are his guests. So, Mustafa did what's expected of him. But Mustafa knows that the voice isn't yours. You keep saying 'This is my voice,' and we're unnecessarily prolonging the issue. We're satisfied with your own voice and the song you've made.

Let me tell you frankly: This song is a product of artificial intelligence. But it doesn't matter.

Today, a journalist, Cüneyt Özdemir, says 'it doesn't matter'... Dear Cüneyt Özdemir, you could prevent these kids from doing this. Because you reach a vast audience. You're a successful journalist; you may not know me, you may not know Tan. But just because you haven't put me or other artists on your radar doesn't mean we don't exist.

By legitimizing your own artificial intelligence project with this narrative, you could take away some people's enthusiasm for playing an instrument. Then we, the artists of today, could become the 'last human artists'. I'm frankly in favor of this: Let all this take away humanity's enthusiasm; then there will be a need for human inspiration. Then it will be understood what human inspiration means, how powerful and unique it is.

After all, all of the current artificial intelligence content is a mimicry of what has been done before. There's no entirely new production.'
