Couple Ditch Rent for Hotel Living and Save Over $1,000 Every Month
Maranda (47) and John Bowers (40), a couple residing in the state of Florida in the United States, have found an unconventional solution to the rapidly rising rental costs. Desiring to escape the burden of a monthly rent of $2,300, the couple has been living in a hotel room since November 2023, managing to save $12,000 annually.
Here are the details...
The couple's life took a dramatic turn when John Bowers' right hand was crushed under a steel beam in a workplace accident.
When her husband became unable to work, Maranda Bowers, who runs her own cleaning company, struggled to cover the monthly rent of $2,300 for their two-story detached house on her own. After a two-week transition period spent with their families, the couple found their solution in long-term hotel stays.
Booking in six-month increments, the couple is residing in a hotel room at a cost of $307 per week. This fee includes all expenses such as electricity, water, internet, garbage, and parking.
Maranda Bowers, who pointed out that hotel living provides significant financial flexibility, summarized the process with these words:
'There's no hassle of paying a deposit or a month's rent upfront. It's much easier to scrape together $307 a week than to pay hefty rent and bills monthly. I don't worry when I turn on the water or air conditioning. Over the last two years, we've saved an average of $1,000 per month.'
Bowers emphasized that the perception of constantly eating out is incorrect, pointing out that the hotel room is equipped with a two-burner stove and a full-size refrigerator.
Bowers, who cooked his own meals in his room, even stated that he prepared meals for half of the hotel residents on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Having created a private workspace for himself with partitions, Bowers added that the hotel management provided a cleaning service every two weeks and fresh sheets daily.
The couple, who have noted that they no longer require a large house since their children have grown up, aim to purchase their own land with the money they've saved from staying in a hotel and build a "tiny house" on it.
The couple, who state that they don't lead a luxurious lifestyle but rather find satisfaction in the simplicity it brings, prefer to invest their budget in traveling and enjoying life, rather than spending on high rents for large houses.
