Heavy Fine for Bio-Poaching: Two Fined $30,000 for Collecting 16 Grasshoppers in Nemrut
Two foreign nationals were caught collecting grasshoppers without permission in Nemrut Mountain National Park. The 16 grasshoppers seized in the operation were released back into the wild. The two individuals were fined a total of 1.4 million TL in administrative fines.

Locust Operation on Mount Nemrut
During inspections carried out in Nemrut Mountain National Park in Adıyaman, two foreign nationals who were identified as unauthorized bug collectors were apprehended by the teams.
In the operation carried out as a result of the coordinated work of the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks and the Adıyaman Provincial Police Department, 16 grasshoppers were seized.
Following the incident, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, İbrahim Yumaklı, announced that a fine of 1.4 million lira was imposed on the two individuals under the relevant legislation.
16 Grasshoppers Released Back into Nature
After the operation, the 16 grasshoppers that were seized were taken under protection. After the necessary procedures were completed, the grasshoppers were released back into their natural habitats.
Minister Yumaklı, stating that Nemrut Mountain National Park is an important part of Turkey's natural heritage, expressed that the fight against biopiracy continues.
