Forget Baking Soda: Clean Range Hood Filters with 2 Simple Ingredients
One of the most challenging steps in kitchen cleaning, the greasy extractor hood filters, no longer need to be scrubbed for hours with baking soda. Lynsey, a social media content creator known as the 'Cleaning Queen' in the cleaning world, shared a practical method using just two ingredients that effortlessly dissolve accumulated grease and bad odors.
Contrary to many, Lynsey suggests a safer method than scrubbing filters or tossing them into the dishwasher. She indicates that the solution lies in warm soapy water and white vinegar.
The expert, who warned that washing filters in the dishwasher could spoil their surface shine, summarized the simple steps to be followed as follows:
Place your metal grease filters in a bowl filled with hot, soapy water.
Add a generous amount of white vinegar to the mixture.
Let the filters soak in this water for about 20 to 30 minutes.
The secret of the method lies in the mild acetic acid contained in white vinegar.
Acetic acid effectively neutralizes the sticky layer of grease adhering to the filter, thereby diminishing its potency. This process, which requires no scrubbing, not only completely neutralizes heavy food odors accumulated in the kitchen rather than merely masking them, but also ensures hygiene.
