The History of the Mansion Dates Back to the 1850s
The story of the Dadyan Mansion dates back to the mid-19th century. The building, constructed in Yeniköy, was commissioned by the Düzoğlu (Düzyan) family. The mansion, built by the family who served in the Imperial Mint during the Ottoman period, maintained its existence for many years as one of the most remarkable structures of the Bosphorus.
Although changes made over time have contributed to the mansion's current appearance, the fundamental story of the building began here. However, the mansion did not remain in the hands of the same family for a long time.
First, It Became the Property of the Aristarhi Family
The next owner of the building after the Düzoğlu family was Nikola Aristarhi, one of the wealthy merchants of the time. The period that Aristarhi, who amassed a great fortune through trade, spent in this magnificent mansion on the Bosphorus, was not long. After experiencing economic difficulties, he was forced to dispose of the property.
The most important period in the story of the mansion, however, began after this.
The Mansion Received its Current Name with the Dadyan Family
The mansion later became the property of the Dadyan family. The most notable member of the family was Artin Dadyan, one of the important bureaucrats of the Ottoman Empire. Dadyan, who held high-level positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had the mansion extensively restored, and the building became synonymous with the Dadyan family for many years.
In fact, the reason why we call it the 'Dadyan Mansion' today also stems from this period. The mansion was no longer just a flashy Bosphorus structure in Yeniköy, it became an Istanbul symbol associated with the name of the Dadyan family.
Witnessed the Century-Long Change of the Bosphorus
The years of the Dadyan family in the mansion were also a part of Istanbul's social and bureaucratic life during the last period of the Ottoman Empire. The mansions on the Bosphorus were not only used as residences during that period; they also played a significant role in the social life of the wealthy families of the time.
The Dadyan Mansion remained a part of this life for many years. However, in the later years of the 20th century, the mansion would change hands once again.
Its New Owner Became Adil Sezer in the 1970s
After the Dadyan family, the mansion became the property of businessman Adil Sezer. With this change that took place in the 1970s, the building started to be referred to by another name: Adil Sezer Mansion.
Therefore, the building that appears today as either the 'Dadyan Mansion' or the 'Adil Sezer Mansion' is actually the same mansion. The reason why different names are encountered in historical records also stems from here. The mansion was also officially granted the status of a historical building by being put under protection in 1971.
Which Series Were Filmed in Dadyan Mansion?
The mansion, appeared in front of the audience especially in the 2nd and 3rd seasons of the Forbidden Apple series. The building, used as the ostentatious mansion of the Argun family in the series, quickly became one of the most memorable locations of the series.
Eda Ece Returned to Her Old 'Home' After Years
One of the characters living in the Dadyan Mansion in Forbidden Apple was Yıldız Argun. Eda Ece, who portrayed Yıldız, returned to the same mansion years later, this time for the series Salted Coffee. However, this time not as Yıldız Argun, but as the character Derin Kutaygil.
