Hailing from Üsküdar, Özgü was born to a retired merchant father with Macedonian roots, Kubilay Namal, and a retired government officer mother of Thessaloniki descent, Akile Namal. Her acting journey commenced in 1997 at the Masal Gerçek Tiyatrosu, where she took part in children's plays. Having graduated from Üsküdar Cumhuriyet High School and the Istanbul University State Conservatory's Theatre Department, Namal has also received acting training from the Kadıköy Public Education Center and Müjdat Gezen Theatre. While Özgü featured in various roles in her early acting career, it was her portrayal of Elif Eylül in the famed TV series 'Kurtlar Vadisi' that catapulted her to widespread recognition.
