Their candidate for chancellor, Elif Eralp, brought immense pride to her mother, Hülya Eralp, who found herself unable to contain her emotions in the face of her daughter's remarkable achievement. Hülya Eralp confessed that the high percentage of votes her daughter received even took her by surprise, leading her to shed tears of joy.

Hülya Eralp explained that her daughter's interest in politics and human rights took shape during her childhood. She and her husband have been fighting against racism and supporting immigrants since the day they arrived in Germany. Eralp, who worked for an immigrant organization for many years, conducted meetings with employers to integrate young people into vocational training, and continued her volunteer work after retirement. 'We never directed her or told her to get into politics,' Eralp emphasized, pointing out that her daughter's interest in politics developed naturally.
Eralp's mother also stated that it was no coincidence that Elif Eralp became a lawyer, recalling that her daughter had been sensitive to injustice from a young age and that people around her always told her, 'You're definitely going to be a lawyer.' After her law education, Elif Eralp served as a human rights lawyer in the Bundestag (Federal Parliament) for about 10 years. Her mother mentioned that she accepted the candidacy offer from the Left Party after a long period of consideration.
Addressing immigrants in Germany, Hülya Eralp urged everyone to stand up for their rights and never surrender. Commenting on the election results in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, Eralp criticized the success of the Alternative for Germany Party (AfD) and advocated for greater immigrant participation in political processes. 'Germany has not sufficiently confronted its own history. It's a disgrace that a fascist party like the AfD, which is hostile to immigrants, received so many votes,' Eralp said, adding that she supported her daughter during the campaign by caring for her grandchildren, distributing leaflets, and assisting with poster work.
