One such theory involved Ian McKellen, who portrayed the white-haired wizard Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings series.
The 85-year-old actor had hinted at 'stirrings in the Tolkien universe.'
According to Independent, McKellen addressed the rumors in an interview with The Times.
McKellen stated, 'I’ve heard rumors that Gandalf will be in the film. But I haven’t received a script, offer, or any plans. Whether I’m fit enough to be in the film, I don’t know. If I don't die, I'm up for it.'
The film, produced by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens, who were behind the original trilogy, is expected to be released in 2026.
