James Gunn Gives First Hints About DC's New Batman: Not Robert Pattinson
DC Studios co-head James Gunn has given the first concrete hints about the new DC Universe's Batman. Who will play the role is not yet known, but according to Gunn the choice is close. The new Batman will be roughly the same age as David Corenswet's Superman, and being a famous star is not a requirement. Robert Pattinson's Batman stays in his own universe.

Speaking on The Suicide Squad: Is It Canon? The Official Podcast, DC Studios co-head James Gunn addressed the question fans have asked for a long time.
Gunn confirmed that no deal has been made yet with the actor who will play Batman in the DC Universe (DCU). But the process seems to be speeding up: in Gunn's words, it will not be very long before they choose him.
No date or shortlist was shared. Still, Gunn's words were the clearest answer so far to the question of when the character will join the new universe.
The new Batman will be about the same age as David Corenswet's Superman.
The most notable hint from Gunn was about age. The new Batman will be roughly the same age as the Superman played by David Corenswet.
Gunn explained that they don't want the two heroes to represent different generations; they think of them as characters from the same era. He added that he sees Batman and Superman as the closest of friends in the future.
The comment weakens speculation that the new Batman would be a noticeably older Bruce Wayne with years behind him. Corenswet's return as Superman in Man of Tomorrow is planned for July 2027.
No famous star is required for the role, and Robert Pattinson stays in his own universe.
Gunn pointed out that Superman roles are mostly cast for fit with the character, while Batman roles have usually gone to movie stars. He signaled that this time they want to take a different path. He also said he would not rule out an actor who has appeared in DC productions before.
The new Batman will not share a universe with the character Robert Pattinson plays in Matt Reeves's The Batman and The Batman: Part II. Pattinson's Batman continues in Reeves's own story.
The DCU's Batman is expected to be tied to The Brave and the Bold, a project announced in 2023, whose release schedule has not been set. For the actor's name, we'll have to wait for an official announcement from DC Studios.
