Elevators have become an integral part of modern life. However, they continue to be a source of phobia for many people. The fear of being trapped in a confined space, coupled with the possibility of the elevator falling, causes anxiety for many. It is of utmost importance that elevators are regularly maintained, otherwise the feared scenario is highly likely to occur.
A video captured the terrifying moment of a malfunctioning elevator plummeting. The rapid descent and the elevator's shattering within seconds served as a stark reminder of the importance of regular maintenance.
Elevators are actually designed in such a way that they are unlikely to fall easily. However, certain mistakes can potentially lead to serious accidents.

Brake System Failure: This is the most critical situation. Normally, when the elevator motor stops or the power is cut, mechanical brakes keep the cabin stationary. Neglect or wear of these brakes can lead to slippage.
Pulley and Rope Wear: Modern elevators typically have between 4 and 8 steel ropes. The breakage of one does not cause the elevator to fall; however, the simultaneous breakage of all ropes due to neglect is a theoretical risk.
Speed Regulator Malfunction: If the regulator is faulty, the 'parachute system' (mechanical lock) that kicks in when the elevator exceeds the set speed limit may not engage.
Overloading: Continuously exceeding the carrying capacity of the elevator creates excessive stress on the brake mechanism and ropes, leading to metal fatigue.
Unauthorized Intervention: One of the most common causes of accidents is when, in the event of a malfunction, the janitor or building residents try to manually release the brakes instead of the technical team.
Leakage or Substandard Part: Not using original and standard parts during periodic maintenance disrupts the system integrity.
