The highest-paid leader in the world has been revealed, set to earn a staggering 3.6 million dollars.

The highest-paid leader in the world is now Singapore's Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong.

During a statement in the Singapore Parliament, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong acknowledged the ongoing debates sparked by the proposed salary increases for public officials. Responding to criticisms, Wong emphasized that 'Political salaries are a sensitive and emotional issue,' and assured that the process of increase would be transparent.

According to the Prime Minister's statement, an immediate increase of up to 9% will be implemented for senior executives in the first phase. Any further increases will be determined entirely based on performance. It is planned for the annual earnings of young ministers to be 1.35 million Singapore dollars, with the possibility of this figure rising up to 1.8 million Singapore dollars based on performance.

In his statement on Tuesday, he announced that he would donate the annual increase of 1.4 million Singapore dollars (1.1 million US dollars) to his salary to charities for the next five years.

According to the 2025 data from the Singapore Statistics Bureau, the average monthly income of an employee in the country stands at 5,775 Singapore dollars. When compared with this data, Prime Minister Wong's new salary corresponds to more than a hundred times the national average. For years, the Singapore government has defended its high salary policy for the same reason: to attract qualified executives to the public sector and to prevent corruption. Within this scope, political salaries are determined based on the average earnings of the highest-income thousand people in the country.

According to data from PoliticalSalaries.com, with his new raise, Wong maintains the title of the world's highest-paid political leader by a large margin. The Executive President of Hong Kong ranks second on the list with an annual income of 719 thousand dollars, followed by the President of the Swiss Confederation with 606 thousand dollars. The US President Donald Trump earns an annual salary of 400 thousand dollars, and the UK Prime Minister receives 230 thousand dollars; this shows that Wong's salary is almost four times that of his closest competitor.
