Global fans were largely unsurprised when HBO announced a second season for its hit series, 'White Lotus.' The series was a huge success, and after seeing how much the fans loved it, HBO obviously wants to keep that going. The series officially began production in February and is set to premiere on HBO Max by October 30. HBO recently released the White Lotus 2 trailer, which tells a new story at a different White Lotus hotel. Here's what to expect with this new season of White Lotus.

New Location

Many things are new about White Lotus 2. The location is one of them. Earlier in the year, Variety released an exclusive scoop stating that White Lotus 2 will be set in Sicily, Italy. While the location is yet another resort within the fictional White Lotus chain, the surrounding city is entirely different from the first season, which was set in Hawaii. Variety also reported that the actual hotel used to shoot the second season is the Four Seasons San Domenico Palace. The Four Seasons Resort in Maui was also used in the first season of White Lotus.

New Theme/Story

The first season of White Lotus deals with radical themes like racism, white privilege, and settler colonialism. The satire follows the life of privileged white guests at a fictional Hawaiian resort. In the series, Paula, a black college student, experiences casual racism from other guests. The series also touches on the place of white privilege in perpetrating settler colonialism.

However, this new season is set to feature more subtle themes like gender roles and sexual politics. In a Vulture exclusive, the creator of the series, Mike White, disclosed that he received a lot of backlash for the colonialism themes in the first season. However, he believes that the themes in the new season will dial down the criticisms.

More importantly, the new season features an entirely different story. It follows the life of Harper Spiller as she vacations with her husband and his friends. Other subplots in the series will also explore the experiences of other guests.

New Cast

While the first season had a cast list comprising stars like Sydney Sweeney, Alexandra Daddario, and Murray Barlett, the new season introduces an entirely different cast. This is largely unsurprising, as the season involves a different story at a location miles away from season 1's location, and the show is still classified as a limited/anthology series.

The audience should expect actors like Michael Imperioli, the stunning Aubrey Plaza and Will Sharpe. Plaza will play Harper Spiller, the main character of the series this time. While Sharpe will play Harper Spiller’s husband, Ethan Spiller. So far, only two returning casts from the first season have been confirmed. They are Jennifer Coolidge (who played Tanya Mcquiod in the first season) and Jon Gries (who played Greg). Tanya and Greg are expected to continue their steaming romance into this new season. In a Variety interview, Aubrey Plaza expressed that she was a big fan of Mark White and thoroughly enjoyed working with him.

Ultimately, the trailer suggests that White Lotus 2 will be a great watch, and the internet seems to agree. In a now-viral post of the trailer, there have been numerous positive reactions, with many fans expressing their eagerness to watch it immediately after it gets released.
