The Doctor Detail Behind Friends’ Chandler Matthew Perry’s Death Sparks Scandal
Friends, which entered our lives in the mid-1990s, evolved into much more than a sitcom narrating the daily lives of a group of six friends. Chandler Bing, one of the most beloved characters of the series, became a global cult figure with his endless sarcastic jokes, humor used as a defense mechanism, and those famous lines.
Following the unfortunate death of Matthew Perry in 2023 due to an accident, an investigation was carried out to scrutinize who and in what manner supplied the actor with drugs during this period. As a result of this inquiry, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who was working in Los Angeles, was sentenced to prison.
The discovery of Perry unconscious in his hot tub at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023, followed by his untimely passing at the age of 54, deeply shook his loved ones.

According to a report released by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, the cause of Perry's death was recorded as the acute effects of ketamine, along with factors such as asphyxiation, cardiovascular disease, and elements used in the treatment of opioid addiction. The manner of death was classified as accidental.
Matthew Perry was undergoing ketamine treatment in the latter part of his life, yet the autopsy report indicated that the level of ketamine in his system was high enough to cause him to lose consciousness and fail to stay afloat in water.
As time passed, the investigation intensified, and by the time 2025 rolled around, crucial details were unearthed regarding the individuals involved in the series of events leading up to Perry's demise.

According to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice, Salvador Plasencia, a former doctor from California, admitted to repeatedly providing the actor Matthew Perry with ketamine illegally, despite being aware of Perry's history of addiction. Moreover, Plasencia turned a blind eye to the improper medical conditions in which the drug was administered. After confessing to his crime, Plasencia was sentenced to 2.5 years (30 months) in prison, in addition to a fine and probation.
Authorities particularly emphasized that the ketamine supplied by Plasencia was not the 'fatal dose' that caused Perry's death, as per the autopsy. However, they stressed that Plasencia exploited the actor by fueling his addiction to ketamine.
