Tensions Soar Between Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina
A brewing conflict in the heart of Europe has captured global attention as Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina find themselves on the brink of a diplomatic showdown. In a shocking statement, Hungary's Deputy Foreign Minister, Levente Magyar, hinted that Hungary might intervene militarily if war breaks out in Bosnia-Herzegovina. This has led to a dramatic escalation, with Bosnia-Herzegovina summoning Hungary’s ambassador to address the growing tensions.
Even more concerning, a Hungarian military plane was recently denied permission to land in Bosnia-Herzegovina. What’s fueling this crisis, and could it spark something bigger?
Let’s dive into the details of this escalating international drama.
Tension Between Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina

According to a report from Mynet, Hungary’s Deputy Foreign Minister Levente Magyar met with Serbian leader Milorad Dodik today in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the joint press conference, Magyar expressed support for Dodik, who has been in the spotlight for his separatist remarks. Magyar claimed that a political lynching campaign had been launched against Dodik, stating, “The West’s attitude towards the Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina is wrong. It cannot treat this country as an enemy. The Serb Republic and Dodik should not be seen as enemies. The Serbian people are a proud people and they should not have to accept this.”
“Hungary No Longer Just a Bystander in the Balkans”

Magyar continued, “The West sees Bosnia and Herzegovina as its own province. It supports the terrible war in Ukraine. Currently, we are witnessing the West supporting and encouraging certain tendencies that could lead to war in the Balkans…” Reminding of World War I, Magyar stated that, like Serbia, Hungary also supports the Serb Republic. “We are with you. No matter what happens, we stand by you and the people of the Serb Republic…”
Called for a Meeting

Following Magyar’s statements, Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency member Željko Komšić called Hungary’s Ambassador to Sarajevo, Krisztian Posa, for discussions. Additionally, a military plane from Hungary was refused permission to land in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
A Political Message

Bosnia and Herzegovina's Defense Minister Zukan Helez, recalling that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban had supported the statements of Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik, stated that he believed the refusal of the Hungarian military plane to land in Sarajevo was a political message.
