Murat Ünalmış: From Basketball to the Silver Screen
When one thinks of Turkey's rich legacy of actors, Murat Ünalmış's name stands tall. Born on 23rd April 1981 in Kayseri, a city known for its historical sites and mountainous terrain, Ünalmış's journey from his home town to becoming one of the country's most respected actors is nothing short of cinematic itself.
A Humble Beginning
Raised in Kayseri, Ünalmış's early life wasn't initially directed towards acting. It was the bustling metropolis of Istanbul that beckoned him after middle school, where his tall frame and athletic prowess led him to play professional basketball for the renowned Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü during his high school years. But, as it turned out, the court wasn't the only stage he was destined to shine on.
From Sports to Acting
After completing his degree from Marmara University's Business Department, Ünalmış sought a shift in his career. Drawn to the arts, he enrolled at Akademi Istanbul for acting lessons. It was during this time that he began to showcase his versatility, working on projects like 'Hayat Bağları' and 'Sınırlı Aşk'. It didn’t take long for him to transition from television series to movies, with roles in films such as 'Deli Duran' and 'Sen Ne Dilersen'.
However, his major break came with the film 'Güneşi Gördüm', directed by Mahsun Kırmızıgül, which widened his fan base substantially. Ünalmış later featured in another of Kırmızıgül's works, 'New York'ta Beş Minare'.
On Screen and Off Screen
Ünalmış's charisma isn't restricted to his professional roles. His life off the screen too saw some dramatic turns, especially with his marriage to fellow actor Birce Akalay, his co-star from 'Yer Gök Aşk'. Although their union was short-lived, their chemistry on screen was undeniable.
