Living in the city of Exeter in England, 32-year-old Luca Klimmt transitioned from working in a warehouse to driving a van, and then took heavy vehicle training to get behind the wheel of a garbage truck. With this decision, Klimmt saw his salary increase by 10,000 pounds (650,000 Lira), and he now carries out his job with a massive garbage truck.

Klimmt's primary goal was to earn more money. After passing the heavy goods vehicle (HGV) test in October 2023, the young woman now finds herself behind the wheel of a Volvo FM truck, approximately 10 meters in length, on a daily basis.

Klimmt's day kicks off at 5 in the morning.

Klimmt collects chemical waste from businesses, covering a distance of up to 250 miles (approximately 400 kilometers) on each shift, and transports it to the landfill. Familiar with the roads due to his weekly routine, he traverses a large portion of the Somerset and Dorset regions.

Despite the challenges of starting work in the early hours, Klimmt asserts that driving this behemoth has become as routine as driving a car.

I still encounter those who believe women can't drive.

Klimmt shared that the Fiat 500, often the first car of many young women and known as a 'girl's car', left people in astonishment when she mentioned that she drives a garbage truck. She also mentioned that during her work, strangers would approach her, asking if there was a man with her, if there was someone helping her, or if she was really the one driving the truck.

Klimmt, who pointed out that some people assume there's a male driver in the cabin, expressed, 'I have to explain to them that I work alone and handle everything by myself.'

Klimmt is the only woman who drives a truck in the company she works for.

Asserting that everyone in her workplace treats her equally, Klimmt expresses her desire to see more women in the industry. Her boyfriend also finds her job incredibly cool.

Against prejudices, Klimmt stated, 'We all have the same arms and legs, anyone who is trained can use this.' Her clear advice for women considering this profession is: 'Just do it and try for yourself, it's not as scary as you think.'
