-

Dying on screen poses a unique challenge for an actor, but some are more accustomed to it than others. In fact, some stars seem like they die during just about every movie they're in. Grab a shovel and keep reading below for a look at a few of Hollywood's finest fake dead people.

Beware of spoilers!

1. Leonardo DiCaprio

Died 9 times in movies: The Quick and the Dead, Total Eclipse, Romeo and Juliet, Titanic, Blood Diamond, The Departed, J. Edgar, Django Unchained, The Great Gatsby. Maybe the most memorable one, Titanic took him to being 14th on this list!

2. Liam Neeson

Died 15 times in movies. Ok, maybe most of them were before he became super famous but it wouldn't make us forget his incredible crying scenes in movies such as Star Wars or Batman Begins.

3. Nicolas Cage

Nicolas Cage

Died 15 times in movies. In real life, we suspect Nicolas Cage might be immortal, but in movies, he's uncommonly susceptible to memorably messy deaths. He took a stake through the chest in Vampire's Kiss, drank himself to death in Leaving Las Vegas, and was burned to a crisp in Kick-Ass, just to name a few—but no matter how many times he dies on screen, our favorite will always be the wackadoodle way he perishes in the all-around crazy 2006 remake of The Wicker Man.

4. Robert De Niro

Died 17 times in movies. Being one of the best actors ever, he dies in following movies such as Brazil, This Boy’s Life, and Heat.

5. Bruce Willis

Died 19 times in movies. Nevermind Die Hard. For much of his career, Bruce Willis' mantra seems to have been "die often." His dozen-plus on-screen deaths have included crucial turning points in movies like Twelve Monkeys and The Jackal, and it was his character who had the honor of saving the planet by being blown up on an asteroid in Armageddon. But his greatest death might be his most mind-blowing: namely, the sneaky way he bit the dust in The Sixth Sense.

6. Samuel L Jackson

Died 20 times in movies. Simply put, when you make over 100 films, you're bound to be called upon for your share of death scenes. But Jackson's many movie deaths (and still growing) include some of modern cinema's most memorable character exits, including being suddenly slaughtered by a shark (Deep Blue Sea) and sent plummeting to his death by evil Emperor Palpatine (Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith).

7. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa

Died 23 times in movies. He has shot over 90 movies, mostly played the bad guys, and he rarely made it to the end of his movies. You may still remember his character in Mortal Kombat movie.

8. Gary Oldman

Died 23 times in movies. Oldman’s first notable roles had harsh ends: Shot dead in State of Grace and playing the doomed Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK. He met dual ends as Dracula, gunned down in True Romance and The Professional, blown up in The Fifth Element, kicked out of Air Force One, eaten by wild hogs in Hannibal and knocked into a mystical portal in Harry Potter.

9. Sean Bean

Died 24 times in movies. Sean Bean's propensity for playing ill-fated characters is so well-known that it's inspired its own website, countless memes, and numerous in-depth analytical studies to determine whether he has, in fact, died onscreen more than any other actor. "Maybe it's the quality of my death people are fascinated by," he suggested during one of his interviews: "I liked Lord of the Rings. Big death."

10. Mickey Rourke

His big deaths have included Angel Heart (which is really a fate worse than death), Double Team, gunned down in Once Upon a Time in Mexico and getting the electric chair (multiple times) in Sin City.

11. Vincent Price

Died 34 times in movies. The long-time king of horror movies, it’s no surprise Price was subject to quite a few on-screen deaths from being shot to torn apart, staked, burned, strangled by Charlton Heston in The Ten Commandments to The Great Mouse Detective. His final major on-screen role in Edward Scissorhands had a haunting death that was heartbreaking and showcased his fantastic talents.

12. Lance Henriksen

13. Christopher Lee

Died 41 times in movies. In a tribute to Sir Christopher Lee, who died at the age of 93 last year, it is only fitting to look back at his career that included hundreds of movies. Lee often played the villain, from Count Dracula to Count Dooku, from Rasputin to Saruman.

14. John Hurt

Died 43 times in movies. Obviously, plenty of esteemed actors have bit the big one in multiple movies, but John Hurt takes cinematic corpsehood to another level. Not only has he compiled more screen deaths than arguably any other actor but the Oscar-nominated legend also boasts one of the most memorable all-time exists: he was the first victim of a "chestburster" in Alien, suffering a gory demise that's made millions of moviegoers jump screaming out of their seats.
